Why did the NFL get rid of one of the bye weeks?

Weeks 6 and 7 both have 6 teams on bye (week 6 – Cleveland, GB, Indy, Minnesota, NE, and Jax; week 7 – Chicago, Tennessee, St. Louis, NO, SF, and Baltimore). Don’t they realize this disturbs the fabric of fantasy football?

When they added the last expansion teams and then resorted the divisions, they had enough teams to have a round schedule for 16 weeks. The bye week allows the NFL to stretch the season to 17 weeks. There has been some talk of shortening the pre-season, as most of the stars sit for risk of injury, so it’s possible further changes are forthcoming. I hope so…the season flies by!
